About the station
Wilnecote station is located in the Tamworth suburb of Wilnecote, which is just a short distance south of the centre of Tamworth. The station first opened in 1842 as Wilnecote and Fazeley. It was built by the Birmingham and Derby Junction Railway and renamed Wilnecote in 1904.
The station facilities include a self-service ticket machine and a seating area on each of the two platforms. Step-free access is available to Platform 2 from Watling Street. Ticket machines at this station are accessible, and there is an impaired mobility set down point. An induction loop has been fitted to help the hearing impaired, and a ramp is available for train access. Things to do in Wilnecote
At less than two miles from the centre of Tamworth, Wilnecote is perfectly positioned for all the local attractions. Drayton Manor Theme Park and Resort is only a 30 minute bus ride away from Wilnecote station. This theme park is home to over 50 rides and attractions, and hosts regular events throughout the year, making it an ideal day out or two for the family. Drayton Manor is also home to everyone’s favourite train, Thomas the Tank Engine.
Another option to keep the children entertained is the Ash End House Children’s Farm on Middleton Lane, less than 5 miles away from Wilnecote station. Here you can see and feed a variety of different animals.
For more active entertainment, a 25 minute bus ride from the station will take you to Cliff Lakes on Tamworth Road. This water sports venue includes open swimming, paddleboarding and five different obstacle courses in Aqualand.
Nearby is the Tamworth Snowdome, where you can ski, snowboard, climb, or skate undercover. You can also try go-karting at Daytona Robeys Lane and swim in an old quarry at Dosthill Quarry on Wigford Road (booking is essential).
