About the station
Hinckley Railway Station is located in the town of Hinckley, situated halfway between Leicester and Coventry. The first railway line here was built in 1861 between Hinckley and Nuneaton, and Hinckley Railway Station was built in the same year. At first, this line was only 4.5 miles long, but this was extended in 1862 to connect the line to Wigston Magna, near Leicester.
The original station was built south of the town in open fields, but as the town grew over the next 150 years, the station became more important to the local economy. Redevelopments over the years have seen the platforms rebuilt and new private offices added.
Facilities at Hinckley Railway Station include 63 parking spaces of which 2 are accessible, and bicycle stands. Toilets can be found on the Main Concourse, step-free access and wheelchairs are available. For more information about how CrossCountry can help please see our priority seating and travel assistance options for your journey.
Hinckley Station is served by several bus and tram lines so continuing your journey via public transport is easy. CrossCountry serves popular routes to this station such as Leicester to Hinckley, Birmingham to Hinckley and Nuneaton to Hinckley.
Things to do in Hinckley
There is plenty to keep you entertained if you choose to visit Hinckley with CrossCountry. Burbage Common and Woods is only a two mile walk from Hinckley Railway Station, or twenty minutes by bus. The common boasts 200 acres of walks and wildlife and is the perfect place to give your dog some exercise. History buffs might also like to visit the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre where you can see a variety of temporary and permanent exhibits of local history.
If you prefer your activities with a little more vroom, you will enjoy the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience tour. Here you can learn all about the history and manufacture of these world-famous motorbikes.
Elsewhere in town, you can visit the Hinckley and District Museum on Lower Bond Street. The museum describes itself as a ‘small museum, hidden treasures’, so who knows what you will discover. Check before you visit though as it’s not open all year round. Another local curiosity is the Haunted Antiques Paranormal Research Centre on Regent Street. Here you can experience the first-ever paranormal research centre in the UK, examine the antique collection, or simply take part in one of the escape rooms they host.
For a more down-to-earth experience, Hinckley also offers a cinema and leisure centre, and a variety of shows are hosted at the Concordia Theatre on Stockwell Head. To keep the kids entertained why not look out for Bubbles Active Play centre in Sketchley Meadows, suitable for children up to 12 years of age. Hinckley town centre also offers a range of shopping and leisure options, and you can top off your visit with a stop at one of the many local cafes and restaurants.
Book your journey to Hinkley today with one of CrossCountry’s ticket options, and see what else there is to discover.
