About the station

Brockenhurst Railway Station serves the village of Brockenhurst deep in the New Forest in Hampshire. Brockenhurst is the most populous village in the New Forest. The station was first opened in June 1847, by what was then the Southampton and Dorchester Railway. At first, services only ran to Southampton and Dorchester, with the route to London opening the following year. In 1888, a direct line to Bournemouth and Poole was opened which led to a surge in popularity. Today the station is a key interchange for passengers to the New Forest and the Isle of Wight.

Brockenhurst Station provides self-service ticket machines and has an induction loop fitted to assist the hearing-impaired. The ticket machines are accessible, as is the ticket counter, and ramps to help with easy train access. Step-free access is also available throughout the station. National Key toilets and customer help points are available.

The new footbridge and lifts, which made the station fully accessible, were made possible by an investment of over £4 million in 2014 as part of an initiative named Access to All. The redevelopment meant the loss of a unique feature of a passenger and luggage turntable at Brockenhurst Station.

Other station facilities include toilets and refreshments, baby changing facilities, a seating area and public Wi-Fi. The station car park has space for 240 cars with 4 accessible spaces, and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is also bicycle storage for 122 bikes and is protected by CCTV, as is the rest of the station.

Brockenhurst Railway Station is served by several bus routes so continuing your journey via public transport is easy. If you're travelling further from Brockenhurst, explore information about your onward journey. The station also has a taxi rank.

CrossCountry serves popular routes such as Winchester to Brockenhurst, Bournemouth to Brockenhurst and Southampton to Brockenhurst. Southampton Airport is easily accessible from Brockenhurst too.

For more information about how CrossCountry can help please see our priority seating and travel assistance options for your journey.

Things to do in Brockenhurst

Although Brockenhurst is a key passenger interchange, its location in the heart of the New Forest makes it a wonderful destination in its own right with plenty of things to do. In fact, it has been for hundreds of years; the New Forest was named a royal forest by William the Conqueror in 1079. Today you can explore the heathland, pasture, and forest for yourself, and perhaps see the horses that graze here. The annual New Forest show has been running since 1920 and takes place each July.

The National Motor Museum at Beaulieu is only seven miles from Brockenhurst. You can cycle there in 45 minutes or take public transport via Totton Station. Here you can explore the Palace House, and Beaulieu Abbey as well as the collection of hundreds of classic and famous cars.

Paultons Theme Park and home of Peppa Pig World is just over an hour away by public transport and the perfect destination if you have young children to entertain.

Being so close to the south coast means there is plenty of maritime history to explore in the area. Buckler’s Hard on the Beaulieu River was once a shipbuilder for Lord Nelson’s fleet, and Southampton, which is less than fifteen minutes away by train is home to the SeaCity Museum.

There’s plenty more to see and do in and around this New Forest village, so book your trip to Brockenhurst today with one of CrossCountry’s ticket options, and see what else there is to discover.
