About the station

Bristol Parkway Railway Station is one of the newest stations on the CrossCountry network, having opened in 1972 as one of the first ‘Park and Ride’ stations in the UK. Today, the station is the third busiest in the West of England, after Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads.

The development of the station led to new commercial developments in the area, bringing with them new jobs and housing. The station building was redeveloped over the years and this work was completed in 2001, bringing the station up to date. Bristol Parkway now offers all benefits of modern conveniences you would expect from a twenty-first century railway station.

There is parking for 1,140 cars and 156 bicycles. The car park is fully accessible and step-free access is available throughout the station. The toilet facilities are accessible and support the National Key scheme. Step-free access to trains is possible and ramps and wheelchairs are available if necessary. Baby change facilities are provided, as well as waiting rooms, shops, and free public WiFi.

As one of the country’s major cities, Bristol is easy to get to and is well-served on the CrossCountry network. Popular local routes include Cardiff to Bristol Parkway and Bath Spa to Bristol Parkway. You can even get from Edinburgh to Bristol Parkway in under seven hours.

Things to do in Bristol

As one of the country’s most iconic cities Bristol almost needs no introduction. You might already know Bristol as the home of mystery artist Banksy, its shipbuilding heritage, or its location on the banks of the beautiful River Avon; but you don’t know Bristol until you have experienced it for yourself.

Endless blogs have celebrated this city but there is always something new to discover in Bristol. The independent shopping paradise that is Gloucester Road should be high on your list of places to visit, and the Harbourside offers waterfront shopping and dining. You can make your visit to Bristol as active or relaxed as you like.

Bristol’s music scene is a big part of the city’s nightlife with the O2 Academy on Frogmore Street and venues like the community-owned Exchange on Old Market offering a wide variety of musical entertainment.

One of Bristol’s most famous landmarks is the Clifton Suspension Bridge, but did you know the bridge hides forgotten vaulted chambers which were rediscovered in 2002? Why not take a tour and see what else you can learn.

Bristol is always worth a visit and there is so much to see and do in this wonderful city you will never run out of things to keep you busy. Next time you’re in town see what other surprises you can uncover.

For more ideas on what to do during your visit see our Bristol destination page for what else this city has to offer, including Bristol’s best hidden bars, and things to do in Bristol in the summer.
