About the station

Beeston Railway Station was built in 1839 and expanded in 1847 from a single small building to the larger brick building which is still standing today. In 1871, the station was further developed with a glass and wrought-iron canopy.

The road bridge over the train tracks replaced the original level crossing in 1969, as the frequent trains were disrupting traffic. The old signal box and footbridge were also removed at this time.

The station was, at first, popular with residents of nearby Nottingham who loved to take advantage of day trips from the city to the countryside. By the 1980s passenger numbers had declined to the point that demolition was considered, but this was reversed by a successful local campaign. This led to Grade II listed building status being awarded to the station in 1987 followed by the platform shelters in the early 1990s. A restoration project commenced over the next few years, culminating in newly rebuilt platforms in 2004. Today, passenger numbers continue to increase which is both a contribution to and a reflection of the ongoing developments in the town.

The facilities at Beeston Station include 20 car parking spaces, including 1 accessible space, and 22 cycle parking spaces. National Key toilets can be found in the main building. Customer help points are available, and an induction loop has been installed. The ticket machines and the ticket counter are both accessible. Step-free access is only available to platform 1. For more information about how CrossCountry can help please see our priority seating and travel assistance options for your journey.

The station lies on the Derby-Nottingham route of the National Cycle Network, so combining a train and bicycle journey couldn’t be easier. Beeston Station is also served by several bus and tram lines so continuing your journey via public transport is easy. Onward travel information from Beeston Station is available to download here.

CrossCountry serves popular routes such as Birmingham to BeestonBirmingham University to Beeston, Nottingham to Beeston and Derby to Beeston.

Things to do in Beeston

Beeston Station was a popular destination from nearby Nottingham 150 years ago, and today there is even more to see and do in and around the town.

The local council has been working on improvements to the town centre since 2015. Today this includes more accessible facilities as well as developments to the town’s cultural, artistic and business appeal. The Street Art project in Beeston began with a festival in 2018 and has been adding pieces ever since. Today, over 30 artists—many of them local—have contributed works to the town. The paintings adorn buildings all over the town.

Nottingham University’s main campus sits on the northeast of Beeston and includes the beautiful Highfields Park which offers a boating lake, adventure golf, and more. Highfields Park is also part of the university campus cycle route. If you are looking for an excuse to be more active, parkrun takes place every Saturday at Weirfields Recreation Ground, which is only half a mile from Beeston Railway Station. Beeston town centre also offers a range of shopping and leisure options, and you can top off your visit with a stop at one of the many local cafes and restaurants.

Book your journey to Beeston today with one of CrossCountry’s ticket options, and see what else there is to discover.
