On 18 June CrossCountry took part in a Meet the Manager & Community Rail Day held at historic Stamford station. Following successful similar events arranged by Cambridgeshire based Hereward Community Rail Partnership (CRP) at Ely, March and Peterborough it was decided to hold a collaborative event further along the line of route involving our community associates from the newly formed Stamford Station Adopters and Lincolnshire County Council’s Rail Officer. Rail customers and members of the local community were invited along to the station to meet with managers from CrossCountry, EMR, Greater Anglia and CRP officers to give their feedback and suggestions for improving train and station services at Stamford.

CrossCountry’s Stakeholder Manager, East Midlands & East Anglia, Dave Jones said; “We were amazed by the number of people who came along specially to Stamford station to tell us what they thought about our current service offer and how we can work with the local community to improve the station facilities and make better use of empty space at this lovely historic station.”  Dave added; “As CrossCountry provides nearly the entire train service at Stamford a number of people waited patiently to give me their personal feedback, and I’m pleased to say that many made positive comments about our on-board crews that work our Stansted and Cambridge – Birmingham services.  I was delighted to be able to assure some of our regular customers using Stamford station that we will be fully refurbishing our Turbostar trains and restoring two missing trains to provide an hourly timetable from May 2025”.

Other popular themes discussed were a half-hourly train service frequency, the need for Sunday morning services and improvements to the station facilities including lifts to the Leicester direction platform, toilets and waiting rooms being available all day and a station café.
