Britain’s largest long-distance train operator, CrossCountry, has welcomed the decision by the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers Union (RMT) to call of their planned strikes on Saturday 19 February and Saturday 5 March.
Britain’s largest long-distance train operator, CrossCountry, has welcomed the decision by the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers Union (RMT) to call of their planned strikes on Saturday 19 February and Saturday 5 March.
The union has informed its members at CrossCountry they have withdrawn their dispute regarding Train Managers and Senior Conductors, and they should report for work as normal on these dates.
However, given the lateness of the announcement and the impact on the railway caused by Storm Eunice, passengers wanting to travel on Saturday 19 February should to check their journey carefully before setting out.
CrossCountry’s Managing Director, Tom Joyner, said: “This announcement will be a huge relief to our customers, allowing them to plan their work and leisure journeys on these dates with confidence.
“With this behind us we want to work collaboratively with our unions, colleagues and stakeholders to meet the challenges ahead. There is much to do, and the assurance of a reliable and dependable train service will be the foundation on which we work together to rebuild Britain’s railways.”

Long-distance train operator CrossCountry has announced adjustments to its timetable from 14 December, as part of the rail industry’s twice-yearly timetable review.

- CrossCountry will operate a reduced timetable over the Bank Holiday weekend – with no services on Saturday 23 August - due to industrial action by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT)
- Services on Sunday 24 August are also likely to be subject to cancellations across all CrossCountry routes
- Passengers are advised not to travel on Saturday 23 August and to travel on either side of the Bank Holiday weekend, or claim a full refund
