About the station

Nuneaton Railway Station is a transport hub in the heart of Nuneaton, a large town in Warwickshire. With three railway lines running through, connecting Nuneaton to a range of UK towns and cities, this is a fantastic transport connection for Nuneaton and its surrounding areas; connecting to cities like Coventry and Birmingham.

Nuneaton is a historic railway station, originally opening in 1847 as part of the Trent Valley Line. With another line added in 1850, to Coventry, Nuneaton rapidly became one of the prominent train stations in Warwickshire. Like other stations on the line, the original station was designed by John William Livock as a simple two-platform structure. However, as the station began to serve more routes and run trains more regularly, the two platforms were not enough. It was expanded in 1873, and again in 1915. The current buildings, which stand today, are from the 1915 reconstruction and were designed by Reginald Wynn Owen.

In the past, Nuneaton had been home to multiple train stations. Originally named Nuneaton Midland, the later renamed Nuneaton Abbey Street was closed in 1968. Following this closure, Nuneaton Trent Valley became known simply as Nuneaton – the station we know and love today!

Finding your way to Nuneaton is simple on a CrossCountry train. Whether you’re coming from the West Midlands or further afield, there are plenty of easy routes that will start your trip to Nuneaton off in comfort and ease. Popular routes include Birmingham to Nuneaton, Cambridge to Nuneaton, Leicester to Nuneaton, and Peterborough to Nuneaton.

Things to do in Nuneaton

Theatre lovers simply must pay a visit to the Abbey Theatre. Whether you’re from the local area and are looking for new ways to spend your evenings and weekends, or if you’re from further away and you’re making a list of things to do on a weekend away. The Abbey Theatre in Nuneaton has a whole host of dramatic and comedic performances to enjoy. This 250-seat auditorium stages everything from touring musicians and musicals to stand-up comedy and pantomimes. Combined with a pre-theatre dinner in a local restaurant, a visit to the Abbey Theatre is perfect for a Nuneaton date-night.

If you’re interested in art and literary culture, why not take a trip to the Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery? The grand house is surrounded by beautiful grounds, with regularly updated exhibitions on local history, George Eliot’s life and work, and a range of artistic styles.

A unique feature of Nuneaton that you won’t find elsewhere is the home of the UK’s biggest motorcycle manufacturer, Triumph. The Triumph Factory Visitor Experience walks you through the history of the company, with fascinating displays on their motorcycle models, how they’re made with state-of-the-art technology, and their place in British culture. Stop off at the 1902 Café to finish off your experience for a bite to eat and a cup of coffee.
